Surname change after a divorce in Poland
Within three months from the date of the divorce in Poland, the divorced spouse who changed his or her name as a result of marriage has the right to return to the name he/she had before the marriage.
The name given to each of the spouses after the marriage in Poland is determined by the statement made to the head of the registry office. A statement may be made immediately after the marriage or before a civil status registry officer has drawn up a certificate stating that there are no circumstances for the exclusion of the marriage.
Spouses may have a common name that is the same as the name of one of them. Each spouse in Poland may also retain his or her current name. A name created by a merger can not consist of more than two parts.
If no statement is made on the surname, in Poland each spouse retains his or her current name.
